Parent and Child Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Program
Parenting can be one of the most difficult jobs a person can have. You may feel concerned about your child's behaviour, mood, grades, or relationships. You believe you have tried everything with no success and wonder how other parents seem to manage. You are not alone. (Stat of parenting difficulty).
CBT is a scientifically validated treatment for clinical diagnosis of depression and anxiety. CBT can help children who often feel nervous, worried, or panicked. It can also help build self-esteem, encourage leadership skills, and teach social skills.
I start by conducting an assessment of your child's symptoms, current situation, and history. This assessment will help me to get a good understanding of your concerns and to develop a treatment plan that is unique to your child's circumstances.
Guided parent Cognitive Behaviour Therapy can help you to continue your child's therapy beyond the counselling room. The sessions include the care giving adult and the child. This approach involves parents being guided in implementing CBT strategies in their child’s day to day life. Each session is broken down into weekly lessons in which specific information about applying CBT are provided, in-person treatment examples are demonstrated, and the parent is given the opportunity to practice and rehearse skills during the session with their child. Follow-up phone conversations can also be provided for further support and questions in between sessions.
Feeling connected is so important for children. Having a parent participate in the therapeutic process helps to develop that connection further. They become a team , using the same language, making discoveries, and creating change together.
The number of sessions will range from 8-12 depending on the level of support needed and the rate of at home progress between sessions.
